Stephanie Pfriender Stylander is an American fashion and entertainment portrait photographer renowned for her evocative and cinematic imagery. Raised in Glen Rock, New Jersey, she pursued her passion for photography by earning an Associate of Science degree from Endicott College in Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
In the early 1990s, Pfriender Stylander moved to Milan and Paris, where she quickly established herself in the fashion industry. Her distinctive black-and-white style, influenced by classic cinematography, garnered attention from prominent publications such as British GQ, French Glamour, Interview, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, and Vogue. Throughout her career, she has captured iconic portraits of cultural figures including Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Keith Richards, Heath Ledger, and Aretha Franklin.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and prestigious art fairs worldwide, including Paris Photo, Photo Basel, Photo London, Photo Shanghai, and AIPAD New York. In 2021, she held a solo exhibition titled "New York City Lockdown" at Galerie Sophie Scheidecker in Paris. Her photographs are part of esteemed collections such as the Nicola Erni Collection and have received accolades from American Photography, Communication Arts, the International Photography Awards, and The Lucie Foundation.
In 2018, Pfriender Stylander published her first monograph, "The Untamed Eye," which showcases a selection of her most compelling work. She is represented by galleries including Staley-Wise Gallery in New York, Ira Stehmann Fine Art in Munich, and Galerie Sophie Scheidecker in Paris. Currently, she resides in downtown New York City with her husband.
